The table assistant creates perfectly designed tables in your company’s corporate design. When you import or update tables from Excel, firesys automatically creates the same design and layout.

The function
The table assistant is your personal assistant for creating new, blank tables and for changing existing tables to suit the defined layout. If the cursor is positioned...
- in text, you can create a new table with the assistant.
- in a table, you can edit it.
Clicking on the icon in the menu ribbon opens the table assistant with which you can create a new, blank table or change existing tables in accordance with your style guidelines Working with the table assistant is explained in more detail in the article on the table assistant.

Tables you import and update with linktables are usually automatically formatted and designed. If a table is not to be automatically adjusted, you can specify this in the Excel Data Manager (see “The Excel data manager”). |
Layout

Opens the table assistant with which you can create a new, blank table ① or change existing tables in accordance with your style guidelines.
Rows
This function contains advanced formatting functions for individual design of the currently selected table row.
Table header
Use the menu sub-items to assign defined formats to the rows in the table header (e.g. first, middle, last).
Table body
Use the menu sub-items to assign defined formats to the rows in the table body (e.g. standard, subtotal, total).
Borders
Above
Use the menu sub-items to format the line above the row where the cursor is positioned.
Below
Use the menu sub-items to format the line below the row where the cursor is positioned.
Left
Use the menu sub-items to format the left-hand border of the cell where the cursor is positioned.
Right
Use the menu sub-items to format the right-hand border of the cell where the cursor is positioned.
Background
Use the menu sub-items to apply or remove background highlighting on cells you have selected.

The manual formatting that you perform here may be reset if you update tables and the “Transfer format information from Excel” setting is selected. |

Applies or removes background highlighting to and from individual columns.
Cell info
Displays the format settings for the cell where the cursor is pointed.
Rows and columns
/ / shrink/stretch/reset
Shrinks or stretches the selected table or restores the standard setting. Here you can select the line spacing, space before and space after.
/ Insert or delete rows and columns
Inserts or deletes rows or columns to the left/right, above/below the cursor position.

Deletes the selected table, column or row from the document.

Besides the table assistant, the context-sensitive “Tables” tab also offers numerous preset options for designing individual rows which have been specially tailored to your publication’s layout.
