You can use hyphenation to determine where certain words can be hyphenated. This enables you to adhere better to your corporate identity requirements, for example.
The list
The list shows all defined rules.
Start
This command executes all typography functions (except the „baseline“ function).
Rules
Insert
Define at which points Microsoft Word should hyphenate the words. (See “Define a new rule”).
Good to know

Edit
Edit an existing rule.
Delete
Deletes the selected rules.
Filter
Full text search for rules.
Language
Select the language for which you would like to define rules. For more information about languages, see Export for Translator.

The “Hyphenation” function is especially suitable for avoiding unwanted separations of company or product names. The “Hyphenate” function is particularly useful to prevent unwanted hyphens in company or product names, for example “Commerz-bank”. |
Add a new rule
How to enter a new word as a hyphenation rule:

In the “*Publish” menu ribbon, in the “Typography” group, click on the “Typography functions” button.
→ The typography task field will open. -
Select “Add rule” in the task field on the “Hyphenate” tab.
→ An entry dialogue opens./ -
Enter the term you require in the input dialog.

Place the cursor at the point(s) at which you would like the word to be hyphenated and click on the “hyphenate” button. Repeat the process at all points at which you would like the word to be hyphenated.

Click “OK” to confirm the dialog.
→ You have added a new syllabification rule.
Good to know

For the “Never hyphenate word” and “Hyphenation” functions, you can select a word in the text beforehand which is preselected in the creation dialog. This means you do not have to type out the word again and you can create the respective rules more quickly without any typing errors. |
