Hyphenation

You can use hyphenation to determine where certain words can be hyphenated. This enables you to adhere better to your corporate identity requirements, for example.

The list

The hyphenation view in Word

The list shows all defined rules.

Start

This command executes all typography functions (except the “baseline” function).

Rules

Insert

Define at which points Microsoft Word should hyphenate the words. (See “Define a new rule”).

	Good to know
	It is not possible to use an identical term in the “Hyphenation” and “Never hyphenate word” functions.

Edit

Edit an existing rule.

Delete

Deletes the selected rules.

Filter

Full text search for rules.

Language

Select the language for which you would like to define rules. For more information about languages, see Export for the translator.

	Good to know
	The “Hyphenation” function is especially suitable for avoiding unwanted separations of company or product names. The “Hyphenate” function is particularly useful to prevent unwanted hyphens in company or product names, for example “Commerz-bank”.

Add a new rule

Die Erklärung der einzelnen Schritte im Detail

So geben Sie eine neue Wort als Silbentrennungsregel ein:

1. Wählen Sie im Menüband „*Veröffentlichen“ in der Gruppe „Typografie“ den Knopf „Typografie-Funktionen“.
   → Der Typografie-Aufgabenbereich öffnet sich.

2. Wählen Sie im Aufgabenbereich auf der Registerkarte „Silbentrennung“ den Knopf „Regel hinzufügen“.
   → Ein Eingabedialog öffnet sich.

3. Geben Sie den gewünschten Begriff im Eingabedialog ein.

4. Stellen Sie den Cursor an die Stelle(n), an der Sie das Wort getrennt haben möchten und klicken Sie auf den Silbentrennungs-Knopf. Wiederholen Sie den Vorgang für alle Stellen, an denen Sie das Wort getrennt haben möchten.

5. Bestätigen Sie den Dialog mit Klick auf „OK“.
   → Sie haben eine neue Silbentrennungsregel hinzugefügt.

	Gut zu wissen
	For the “Never hyphenate word” and “Hyphenation” functions, you can select a word in the text beforehand which is preselected in the creation dialog. This means you do not have to type out the word again and you can create the respective rules more quickly without any typing errors.
